Issues
Government that works together to get things done
We need to continue to have a city council that acts professionally, cooperating and working together. Council members don’t need to agree on all issues, but they should act civilly toward each other and openly with the public.
City government should work for the whole community.
Jobs and economic development
During these difficult times we will need to maintain as much as we can and be ready to position ourselves to move forward when things improve. Jobs and economic development will be best accomplished by:
- Having planned, directed growth, with quality of life issues emphasized
- Supporting our neighborhoods
- Encouraging expansion of existing businesses and targeting specific industries
- Having land space for industrial and business parks
- Providing quality education for all our students
- Developing recruitment and workforce programs
- Making city processes user friendly
- Building on our assets – our uniqueness, NASCAR/BMS, Birthplace of Country Music, our downtown, our natural beauty
Children, Youth and Education
City council must work well with school officials to assure that we have the best schools possible. I have over 24 years of support for and involvement with our Bristol TN public schools. All three of our children attended K-12 in the Bristol Tennessee Public Schools. I have been actively involved as a PTA leader in local units, PTA Council, and the state PTA. I continue to be instrumental in promoting current community-school cooperative efforts.
Citizen Involvement
We must insist on a city government that works with and for the community, where the involvement of all citizens is valued and respected.
I believe in community building through the democratic process. I believe in giving citizens a voice. I believe in working together to solve problems.
